Comments:
Edge has guitar problems on Disc 2, Track 12, and he has synthesizer
problems on Disc 2, Track 13. The recording volume is too low and the
bass is slightly too high. At times, the music drowns out the vocals
which make the latter barely audible. This bootleg is not highly
recommended, (although some people do recommend it) unless for people
who must have every PopMart bootleg. The positive parts are the bonus
tracks on Disc 2. On Disc 2, Track 14, Bono lashes out at PopMart
critics. This is a good European PopMart bootleg. It captures the
atmosphere of the Cologne show perfectly. Unlike some other PopMart
bootlegs, this one features a full version of the "Pop Muzik Intro,"
fading in a few seconds before it starts. Throughout the concert, Bono
mentions the beautiful cathedral in Cologne and even tries to speak some
lines in German. Before "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," he
sings a bit of "Neon Lights". Something goes wrong at the beginning of
"Staring At The Sun," but when the band start again; it sounds beautiful.
The Edge's karaoke song, "Daydream Believer" is the same as at the early
dates in America. Bono repeatedly sings "Gianni" during "Miami," since
it was only about 2 weeks after Versace's death. Disc 2, Track 5 is a
nice little jam after "Discotheque". "MLK" completes a great concert.
The bonus tracks from Mannheim aren't very interesting since The Edge had
a lot of trouble with his guitar (as noted on the back cover). It's fun
though if you want to hear the band struggle. The Hannover tracks are
much more interesting. The Edge makes a rare speech before his
"Suspicious Minds" karaoke, in which he talks about the negative
publicity U2 had gotten during the tour and he mentions Elvis (the
concert took place 4 days after the 20th anniversary of Elvis' death).
The performance of "Wake Up Dead Man," although very short, is nice to
have because Bono only sang parts of it very occasionally. Five of the
tracks from this concert ("Gone" through "New Year's Day") can also be
found in broadcast quality on the FIRST NIGHTS IN EUROPE bootleg.
However, the sound quality on this CD is only slightly inferior to
soundboard. The volume is a little lower than on other boots, but the
sound is fairly clear. Some clapping and whistling can be heard, but the
audience noise doesn't take away from the music at all. The front and
back covers are very nice, but the booklet doesn't offer much, just a
picture of a ticket for the concert. Great show from the Cologne concert
and some nice bonus tracks from other German gigs. The sound quality of
the Cologne gig is sadly a bit dull and. The two tracks from Hannover
are better than the ones from Mannheim. The "Whole Lotta Love" jam at the
end of "Discotheque" a highlight of this bootleg. Disc 1, Track 6 is
listed as "Last Thing On Earth," and Disc 2, Track 10 is listed as Track
     19. Visually, the design of the artwork and the CD itself look great
(same style as POPDREAM BELIEVER). The whole CD sounds a little bit
"hollow" and two of the bonus tracks are marred by problems (as noted).
(It's sounds a little bit different, but problems?) Nice during the
concert are when Bono says, "Ich habe ein frage, Wolt ihr eine gebrauchte
Trabant kaufen?" Bono presents U2's PopMart material as "our neon
cathedral." Before "Daydream Believer," Edge says, "OK, enough of this
crap. It's time to Rock!" Overall, best I can say is to make up your own
     minds on this one.
This is the original pressing on this label.
